Basic Rabbit Care

We carry a small variety a rabbits, which sometimes include, Dutch Dwarf, Netherlands Dwarf, Mini Lops, Rex's and crossed breeds.

Dutch Dwarfs always have two colours on the body. The most common markings are black and white, brown and white, and beige and white. Their maximum size is about seven pounds.

Netherlands Dwarfs always come in a solid colour. They usually have very short ears and will attain a maximum size of about four pounds. This is the smallest rabbit threat can be purchased.

Mini Lops are the most affectionate rabbits. They are unusual because of their floppy ears. They come in various colour patterns. When they are young, it may take a few weeks for their ears to fall over. They will reach a weight of around seven pounds.

Rexs can be easily identified by their soft coat. They are quite exotic and make good pets. They are available in a mostly solid colour and are sometimes lighter on the underside.

Housing

We recommend a Hagen Critter Pen. This cage is suitable to house either one Dutch Dwarf Rabbit, or one Mini Lop Rabbit, or Two Netherlands Dwarf Rabbits. It features high sidewalls to keep the bedding inside the cage. The top could be lifted off and the cage can be used as a litter box once the rabbit is trained. Corn Cob Bedding is more absorbent than shavings, thus reducing the odour and the amount of cleaning. The food dish must be heavy to avoid spillage and hard enough to resist damage from chewing. We carry several sizes of bowls that are constructed of high density plastic to deal with this problem. We also carry ceramic dishes that would be safe for dishwasher cleaning. It is best to dispense water with a water bottle from Hagen , for sanitary reasons.

Diet

Supreme rabbit pellets are made from high quality ingredients that provide a nutritious staple food. We suggest that you do not supplement the diet with Fruits and Vegetables, because this would cause the rabbits to contract diarrhoea, but it is fine if you give them Rabbit Garden instead. We carry a wide variety of suitable treats and snacks to make up for this need. Vitamins are essential to maintain a healthy animal. Vitamins enhance the ability of the rabbit to metabolize its food. (Avitron or Avimin) Dried Hagen treats are recommended as a source of variety. Supreme Kritter Salad is a premium treat that is also available. Minerals can be supplied by using a mineral stone from Redi or Hagen. It also serves as a chew toy as well as an instrument to curb the length of the rabbit's growing teeth. Honey sticks are a great treat, as the honey provides a great source of minerals. It also has a wooden core in the middle to serve as a gnawing treat.
